Recruit or re-educate?
Nowadays we are all in search of new employees. You are probably having a hard time finding qualified people to complete your team. I understand the difficulties. I have been there and done that. And while doing that, I came to an important realisation that I would like to share with you. Hopefully, it will also open your eyes to this subject. I ask you a question: Where do you spend your money on, on recruitment or on re-education?
Well, my money is on re-education. Because why do we always think that the best talent is from out there? And not from within? My dearest female leader, you are surrounded by loyal people! Who may not have the right skill to do the job that you are looking to fulfil, but they do have the right work attitude! And you know what? You can’t teach work attitude, but you can teach other skills.
So, when you are looking for somebody to fulfil one of the roles in your team, look around you! Either within your team or outside your team. Talk to your peers, talk to other departments. Get people who are enthusiastic about staying within the company to work with you. They might not know everything that they need to know. But that, you can teach them! Or get somebody to re-educate them. Because you know what? Recruitment, it takes a long time to get somebody fully embedded in your team again. And this way you have it easier. Sounds like a win-win, right?
